Here’s how to care for your dahlia rooted cuttings during their first month.
1. Unpacking:
Open the package immediately upon arrival.
Handle the cutting carefully, as the roots and stem are delicate.
Contact us immediately with any damage caused from shipping. Take photos! We will provide a full refund or replacement.
2. Planting:
Plant your cutting as soon as possible. Use a pot with well-draining potting soil or plant directly in your garden if conditions are suitable.
Dig a hole large enough to accommodate the roots, and plant the cutting at the same depth it was in its original container. Gently firm the soil around it.
3. Watering:
Water thoroughly right after planting to help the soil settle around the roots.
Keep the soil consistently moist but avoid overwatering. Check daily to ensure it doesn’t dry out.
4. Light & Temperature:
Place the cutting in a sunny spot that receives 6-8 hours of light daily.
Protect the plant from frost, extreme heat, or wind. If conditions are harsh, grow in a container and move it to a sheltered spot.
5. Monitoring Growth:
In the first month, focus on keeping the cutting healthy and hydrated while it establishes its root system.
Avoid fertilizing during the first 2-3 weeks to prevent stressing the young plant.
